JacK Black Wasted in "Husbands and Knives"
So, waiting for tonight's new episode, "Apocalypse Cow," I am forced to re-watch the mediocre "Husbands and Knives." This episode featured the guest voice of Jack Black as the owner of the new comic book store in town, right across the street from the Android's Dungeon. The episode totally wasted not only a good guest voice, but a great potential plot.
The episode, that originally aired back in November, starts out with Bart and Lisa in the comic book feud, but then lames out into Marge opening a women-only gym. It could have gone in the direction of a awesome rivalry and possible sabotage between the two stores. Jack Black and Coolsville, the name of his comic book store, just disappear from the episode, as the story suddenly switches to Homer's insecurity in keeping a newly wealthy and successful Marge. The comic book authors, Alan Moore et al, are given a few "moore" lines at the end, but why and to what effect. The
I think the only time I thought about laughing was when Marge was touring the LA-style gym and can't figure out the treadmill, and we see Duffman, Cookie Kwan, and I forget the other two, doing the fancy steps from that OK Go video on the treadmills.
And yeah, that was it.
Waste of Jack Black (and you can agree to that even if you hate JB) and waste of a potential in this script. I know, I know, the Simpsons are known for starting off with what seems to be one plot and then veers off in another direction, but this one was just lame.
I checked out TV.com which scores the episodes and this one got a 8.6 out of ten. Wow, Simpsons fans will accept anything as "great." I wouldn't have scored this one higher than a six.
Not only that but what happens to all the money that Marge makes?
